Doosan Infracore to Establish Integrated R&D Center

Doosan Infracore held a groundbreaking ceremony to launch the construction of an integrated R&D center at its Incheon Plant in Hwasu-dong, Incheon, on June 27. In attendance at the event were Yong-sung Kim, CEO of the Company, and staff.

The construction of an integrated R&D center is aimed at maximizing synergy in research and development by assembling in one location research personnel, including those in construction machinery and engines, who are scattered across many places. The center, which will be built with an investment of 56 billion won, is slated for completion in early 2014. The facility will come with 12 stories and two underground levels, and a total floor space of 26,163 sq. meters, and will accommodate up to 1,000 R&D staff. In addition to office and research spaces, the center will also include spaces for communications and the cultivation of creative ideas, including the “Town Hall Meeting Space,” and “Idea Rooms.”

Doosan Infracore CEO Yong Sung Kim said, “The Company decided to construct an integrated R&D center, judging that if it were to secure top level technology then the integration of research and development was necessary.” He added, “The center will become a landmark for Doosan Infracore’s global R&D.”

Through an organizational reshuffle in April, Doosan Infracore established Corporate R&D Division which consolidated its enterprise-wise R&D capacities, including those from the Technology Center, Engine BG, and the construction machinery area, and broke ground on the construction of the integrated R&D center as part of the initiative. Doosan Infracore has invested about 4 percent of its annual sales revenue earned by its headquarters in R&D and will invest more than 200 billion won this year after investing 160 billion won last year.
