On November 25, Doosan Infracore presented awards to employees who have received patents for their inventions at a ceremony held for the first Doosan Infracore Business Patent Award. The prizes were awarded to those who made a noticeable contribution to the company’s sales and expansion of the market through inventions.
CE General Manager Hyeongho Kim won the Grand Prize, along with cash prize of 10 million won, for a patent related to the wheel excavator ram cylinder control device. The Gold Prize (along with cash prize of 5 million won) was awarded to Machine Tools BG Chief Researcher Sanghyeon Jeong and CE General Manager Hyeongseok Kim while the Silver Prize (along with
cash prize of 2 million won) was given to four teams, including the Institute of Technology’s
senior researcher Cheongrae Lee and Managing Director Sangbeom Kim.
In addition to the award for technical patents, the company also established an award for patents that significantly contribute to management and awarded it for the first time this year. By giving the awards at the beginning of every year, the company will provide inspiration to push forward innovations in the field of management as well. Through these awards the company plans to create a more active research atmosphere.
To select the prize winners, the company carried out preliminary screening among the cases of registered industrial property rights (i.e. patent, utility model patent, and design rights) that resulted in sales through application to the company’s products. Two candidates each from CE, Machine Tools BG, Engine BG and the Institute of Technology were selected as candidates for main screening.
On October 31, the five-member in-house patent deliberation committee comprised of CTO Dooyearn Jo, managing directors of BG Development Centers (three), and the director of the Institute of Technology selected prize winners based on the following criteria: Business Impact (70%), such as effects of increasing sales and market share over the past three years, and cost saving effects and Technology Impact (30%), such as contribution to technological competitiveness and product quality improvement.
Commenting on the process for selecting final prize winners, the committee’s Chairman Jo said, “The finalists were all employees who had made significant contributions to the company and thus it was very hard for us to make final selections. We expect that the event will stimulate action toward the creation of more highquality patents.”
While congratulating the prize winners, President and CEO Yongsung Kim said, “High-quality patents are core factors for the company’s overall competitiveness. I would like to ask employees to do their best in R&D, keeping in mind the company’s future depends on the results of their R&D efforts.”
The Grand Prize winner Hyeongho Kim said, “I am happy that my patent contributed to the company’s management. I would like to share my honor with my colleagues. I will continue to make efforts in the R&D sector to help the company enhance its competitiveness.
