Doosan Infracore’s union (at its Changwon Plant) held a “Declaration ceremony for entrusting the wage deal to management and for cooperation and co-prosperity between labor and management” on September 2. In attendance were some 10 management and union representatives, including President Ki-sun Han and union leader Jang-do Huh.
During the ceremony, the company’s Changwon Plant union entrusted all matters concerning this year’s wage deal and collective bargaining to management, allowing the company to reach a strike-free wage and collective bargaining agreement for this year.
President Han of Doosan Infracore said, “The union’s courageous decision will set the benchmark for labor-management relations in the machinery industry, and will contribute to building mutual trust between the union and the company,” adding, “We will do our best to pay back the union for its proactive cooperation in allowing the company to overcome the global economic recession and to take a new leap forward.”
Union chief Huh said, “I would like to urge management to step up efforts to improve industrial safety and working environments to ensure that all employees can carry out their duties in a safe and healthy manner.” He added, “The union will also redouble efforts to further increase productivity, improve quality, and reinforce sales and marketing capacity.”
Doosan Infracore’s Changwon Plant Union, which bolted from the umbrella Korea Metal Workers’ Union in March to launch a company-specific labor organization, has now sealed strike-free deals for four consecutive years. Doosan Infracore’s unions at its Incheon and Ansan plants are holding wage and collective bargaining negotiations independently from their counterparts at the Changwon Plant.
