Doosan Infracore’s Engine BG successfully held ceremonies for the testing of HCNG engines and the transfer of the first bus equipped with a CNG engine, after completing the construction of an engine plant at its U.S. affiliate, as it steps up its advance into the U.S. natural gas engine market.
The ceremony for the bus transfer, which was held at Riverside in California on October 20, was attended by more than 150 people, including Chairperson Karen Spiegel of the Riverside Transit Agency, officials from the Californian state government, and executives from transporting companies. The participants took a first-hand look at the advanced technology of Doosan Infracore’s CNG engine, and expressed their high expectations for the engine, which showed excellent performance in terms of power and noise levels relative to rival products.
California is the US state with the highest demand for natural gas engines, and imposes strict pollution regulations. Through this event, Doosan Infracore said it had successfully promoted the superior technology of its CNG engines early on, and thus laid the foundations for its successful advance into the U.S. natural gas-powered bus market.
Meanwhile, the Engine Material BG plans to begin mass production of CNG engines from mid November, and sell them through a network composed of numerous large dealers, including Valley Power in California.
Earlier, on September 9, the Engine BG successfully held a ceremony for a test run of its HCNG engine, which is under development for compliance with the US 2010 emission regulations, at Oleson-Ecologic Engine testing laboratory, a professional testing agency in the U.S. Attending the ceremony were officials from the Californian state government and LA Metro, as well as key clients from Orange County. The Engine BG earned high marks for introducing HCNG engines equipped with superior efficiency and economy to the guests.
Following the testing ceremony, the California state authority, which makes and implements eco-friendly investments and policies, sent the following message of thanks, expressing its keen interest in Doosna Infracore’s HCNG engines: “We would like to convey our gratitude for your provision of information on eco-friendly engines…. We hope to see the introduction of engines fitted with new technology to the market through the state of California as soon as possible.”
* HCNG Engine (Hydrogen Blended Compressed Natural Gas): The engine uses compressed natural gas mixed with hydrogen, and offers superior energy efficiency and economy. Doosan Infracore’s Engine Material BG plans to spur its efforts to develop an HCNG engine and to begin mass production in next year’s second half. The BG aims to develop the engine to a level that meets the emission standards of the State of California, which imposes the strictest emission restrictions in the world.
