DICC Sells 5,000th Forklift in China

Doosan Infracore China Co. (DICC) sold its 5,000th “Chinese-style” forklift model on May 24. A special ceremony was held to mark the event, and company officials pledged to work even harder to reach the next milestone.
The plant at Yantai, China was completed in 1998, and the local subsidiary broke into the Chinese forklift market by initially producing highperformance models for high-end buyers. At the end of 2004, DICC began massproducing six models designed specifically for cost-conscious local companies. Sales of these lowend forklifts have increased steadily, and DICC officials expect aggregate sales to reach the 10,000 and 20,000 marks quickly.
Zhangyu Pioneer Wine Co. Deputy General Manager Xu Qiang attended the May 24 ceremony to accept the delivery of the 5,000th model to come off the production line. He was offered some extra perks as well, including an extended warranty period.
Early this year, the DICC Forklift Division established its mid-/long-term business strategy. The plan calls for DICC to be one of China’s top three forklift makers by 2010. To this end, the company will expand product lines, including models for the mid-range segment, as a way to increase demand. In addition, DICC will begin producing export models this year.
DICC Vice President Paik Seung-chan, chief of the Forklift Division, says, “The delivery of our 5,000th model serves as the cornerstone for us to achieve bigger targets. We are building a lineup that satisfies the requirements of diverse customers.”
