Doosan Infracore, with financial assistance from the Ministry of Construction & Transportation, will invest W15 billion to develop a fifteen-ton unmanned excavator over the next five years
An excavator outfitted with an intelligent operation system could perform work on its own at construction sites, helping to alleviate the shortage of skilled human operators. The number of people involved in accidents would be lowered, and work would be carried out with precision and efficiency, facilitating work supervision.
Unmanned excavators could be deployed in dangerous work environments such as mine fields, polluted areas and sloped terrain. They also could be used in unfriendly climates such as deserts and frigid regions.
Moreover, the intelligent operation system can also be adopted for other types of construction equipment such as bulldozers, graders and dump trucks.
The automation and further mechanization of construction work will help raise productivity within the industry.
For these reasons, leading construction equipment manufacturers around the world are already working on unmanned models as a strategic next-generation product line.
