The Construction Equipment BG recently rolled out a product lifecycle management (PLM) system based on 3D computer-aided design. It includes Dassault Systemes CATIA Version 5 and ENOVIA VPLM product development solutions.

Doosan Infracore is Korea's first to use the ENOVIA VPLM, which offers a 3D CAD-based collaborative design development environment. A unified database enables the system to integrate Engineering Bill of Material (E-BOM) and Manufacturing Bill of Material (M-BOM) management. Moreover, all organizational units participating in new product development projects now take part in planning the complete product lifecycle, starting from the initial design stage. Company officials estimate that cost savings from the new system will amount to W2.3 billion (some US$2.4 million) a year by reducing the number of design changes that will be needed.

General Manager Kim Tae-hwan of R&D Team 1 in the Construction Equipment BG says, "With our new 3D PLM system, we have laid the groundwork for various internal process innovations. We will boost our global competitiveness by having a collaborative development environment that applies 3D-based PLM technology from design to production"
