The global human resources system is extended to sales and service units at Doosan Infracore China.
- Plans call for local hires to take the lead in all Chinese operations.
Doosan Infracore is busily training people to be effective in a global working environment. As part of this effort, the Machine Tool & Factory Automation BG officially assigned six employees who are Chinese nationals to management positions in sales and after-sales service departments on August 7. The company is expanding its performance-based pay and promotion system, and locally-hired Chinese are now eligible to serve in key positions of responsibility. This is part of a global personnel system that encourages employees to improve their skills and provides both the company and its people with a long-term vision.
Success in China hinges on the retention of topnotch people. Employee turnover rates are very high in China, and Doosan Infracore management is acutely aware of the need to implement a personnel policy designed to accommodate local conditions. Since coming to China, the company has managed to boost the satisfaction and performance of locally-hired employees by offering pay-based incentives. However, simple monetary rewards have proven to be effective only for the short term. Employees can always find another job somewhere else that pays even more.
Nachine too sales and service positions in China are now 95% filled by locally-hired employees. The percentage of Chinese employees in management continues to rise, and ultimately all operations in China will be mainly led by local nationals.
Executive Vice President & C.O.O Kim Woong-bum, Chief of the Machine Tool & Factory Automation Business Group, spoke at the ceremony for appointing the new locally-hired managers:
"China is our largest market outside Korea. The key to our success here is supervision by local people; they can keep us close to the market for quantitative as well as qualitative growth. We plan to step up our hiring of high-quality people locally and will continue improving the training programs at our Chinese operations."
