The Indonesian government is establishing "bus ways"(dedicated bus lanes) in Jakarta to improve the mass transportation system and reduce traffic congestion. Routes 2 and 3 were officially opened on January 15, and ten Daewoo BH115E buses have already been deployed. The buses are equipped with GE12TI (290ps) compressed natural gas (CNG) engines developed and produced by Doosan Infracore. The vehicles were tested during 2004 and proved to be the cleanest burning, quietest running, and the most economical in their class.
There will be 126 of the CNG-powered Daewoo-built buses delivered to Jakarta before the end of this year. The local government there plans to have 15 routes by 2011, with some 1,200 buses operating on them. These vehicles will help to improve traffic conditions and cut pollution in the Indonesian capital, and opportunities for further exports to the region are expected.
