-The engineers credited with making breakthrough received hefty rewards    A briefing on DtC Wave-1, the first phase of the company's latest design innovation program (DtC), was held at the Incheon Plant on January 27. Doosan Infracore President Choe Sung-chul, Corporate Center President Kim Yong-sung (Strategy & Innovation), Corporate Center Exec. Vice President Kang Dae-ryung (Strategy & Planning), and and Vice President Park Jin-won (Operations Innovation) were on hand to hear the main details and results of the innovation project. DtC Wave-1 was launched in September of last year to improve the design and production of the next-generation 2.5-ton diesel forklift. Within just five months, the objectives had been met and the company was in the position to design and economically produce a forklift that would satisfy customer needs fully.
At the briefing, President Choe reminded everyone that cost-cutting was not the sole objective and must be accompanied by quality improvements. Awards were then presented to the employees who contributed to the highly successful results.
Doosan Infracore is pursuing improvements in three areas (strategies & growth, operational innovation and organizational competencies) to achieve its long-term vision. DtC is being implemented are part of the operational innovation area. Four Business Groups (Construction Equipment, Industrial Vehicles, Machine Tools & Factory Automation and Engines & Materials) conducted three-month audits, starting in June of last year, to discover areas where improvements could be made.
Next, cost-cutting possibilities were examined for each of the major product lines, along with the potential for expanding the measures to other products. The BGs were then prioritized according to need and the decision was made to implement DtC first in the Industrial Vehicle unit.
