As operations go global, even manufacturers come to realize that "technology is power." At Doosan Infracore, 20% (one out of every five employees) of the workforce is engaged in research.
The company has announced the establishment of a new R&D center at its Changwon Plant (South Gyeongsang Province) as part of efforts to develop technology that leads to future business opportunities such as next-generation machine tools.
In addition, most of the operations at the Incheon Research Institute have been relocated to the Doosan Technology Institute. The company has revealed plans to triple its total number of researchers by hiring 250 more engineers by 2010.
Doosan Infracore acquired the Machine Tool Division of Doosan Mecatec and achieved its best performance ever in 2006. This year’s sales target for machine tools is 10,000 units, up 30% from last year and valued at some W1 trillion. By 2010, the company plans to lead the world machine tool market and sell 20,000 units per annum by 2015.
