Stepping Up R&D for Future Technology

The company is investing W180 billion in 2007 and hiring more than 200 additional researchers by 2010.

The Central Research Institute will be relocated to Yong-in, Korea in June to be a future growth engine.

Doosan Infracore is going all out to develop the technology that can lead future business areas. On May 9, management disclosed a mid-/long-term R&D plan for creating a world-class research program. The plan includes a W180 billion R&D budget for 2007, up 50% from 2006, and calls for the hiring of at least 200 more R&D personnel.
The budget earmarks W13 billion for a new machine tools R&D center at Changwon Plant 1 that will open in July 2008. The five-story building will have 6,600 square meters in floor space, making it the largest and most advanced facility of its kind in the country. It will be outfitted with the latest research equipment, be staffed by more than 300 engineers and provide the optimal research environment and cutting-edge electronic control technology.
In June, moreover, the Central Research Institute will move to a much larger space on the same Yong-in site occupied by the Doosan Technology Institute. This new location will provide the proper environment for developing core technology needed by the company for mid-/long-term growth.
The research staff will also be more than tripled by 2010 to perform this mission effectively.
The concentration of Doosan Group researchers and research facilities at one location will enhance the synergy effect through the sharing of equipment and facilities.
Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer Kim Deok-jung:“We plan to establish a research environment that can enable us to make the transition to major global player. Our mid-/long-term R&D plan is to focus on future technologies needed to create large diesel engines that are environment friendly, various ultra-precision machine tools using the latest electronic control technologies, and top quality, next-generation construction equipment and industrial vehicles that comply with strict environmental standards.”
