On April 29, a team of Middle East sales representatives and overseas service technicians from the Construction Equipment BG visited the contingent of Korean peacekeepers (the Zaytun Division) in Arbil, Kurdish Autonomous Region in Northern Iraq. They brought pieces of construction equipment to be used as trainers and they serviced equipment already there. This was a follow-up to Doosan Infracore's donation of work clothes and safety helmets to the Zaytun technology training unit in 2006.
This time around, company officials also surveyed the construction equipment market in the Kurdish Autonomous Region and met with Construction Vice Minister Nahro A. Assidi and bureau chief-level officials, including advisors for government housing and construction projects. They expressed hope that Doosan Infracore, as a major construction equipment manufacturer, would take part in infrastructure projects organized by the Kurdish Regional Government. Thus, business opportunities look bright there.
The Korean military supplied transportation for the company team between Kuwait and Arbil and made the team members as comfortable as possible during their short stay in Iraq. They also provided escorts and interpreters. Major General Yoon Young-beom, Zaytun Division Commander, explained his unit's mission:
“We provide technical training to the local population to help rebuild Iraq. Our contributions to education and job creation also help to prevent the infiltration of terrorist organizations and stabilize society. The medical, construction and training support given by the Zaytun Division will benefit Korea in the long run as well.”
He also thanked the Doosan Infracore team for their help.
