The Changwon Plant received the Grand Prize in the Corporate (Manufacturing/Machinery & Equipment, Metal Assembly/Transport Eguipments) category at the 2006 Environment-friendly Management Awards, sponsored by the Korea Economic Daily newspaper. Executive Vice President Kim Woong-bum represented Doosan Infracore at the June 16 ceremony.
The Environment-friendly Management Awards are bestowed on selected products and companies who install exemplary environmental management systems that promote sustainable development and proactively address environmental problems associated with production and product use. The awards motivate companies to improve their environmental performance constantly and help boost the companies’ competitiveness.
Doosan Infracore announced its environmental program in 1996 and since then has built an environmental management system that spans R&D as well as production operations. The company has remained committed to developing products that minimize environmental impact. At the same time, Doosan Infracore has remained a leader in pollution prevention, constant environmental performance improvement, and environmental preservation in local communities. These efforts paved the way for company-wide ISO 14001 certification last September. Operational surveillance is performed according to the revised rules of 2004. The environmental systems at the Changwon and Incheon plants received ISO 14001 accreditation by the outside agencies Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) and Korea Quality Assurance (KQA).
Moreover, the Changwon plant was authorized by the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office to perform independent inspections for specified waste materials. Thus, the plant has demonstrated the environmental responsibility to police itself and is no longer subjected to regular inspections by the government.
Meanwhile, the in-house inspections that accompany the latest environmental management program help to maintain and further develop the overall system. The environmental management standards continue to be made stricter, while a preventative management approach improves productivity and ensures transparency. Such improvements help to boost export competitiveness.
This latest award also bolsters the company’s environmental competitiveness. Corporate value is also raised with the public recognition that Doosan Infracore operates a systematic and effective environmental management program.
