HD Hyundai Infracore has joined forces with Incheon City in a public-private partnership to enhance biodiversity.
On November 18, the company contributed 30 million won to support environmental cleanup efforts and ecosystem restoration projects at the Namdong Reservoir, which serves as a vital habitat for the black-faced spoonbill. This initiative seeks to foster a more stable environment for these remarkable birds.
The black-faced spoonbill is an endangered species, with a global population of approximately 7,000 individuals. Notably, around 90% of these birds breed along the west coast of Korea, which is home to a significant concentration of their habitats. This highlights the area's critical importance in protecting this remarkable species.
Incheon City has made significant progress in managing its ecological habitats, resulting in an improvement in the international extinction risk status of the black-faced spoonbill on the IUCN Red List. The species has been reclassified from "Endangered (EN)" to "Vulnerable (VU)." This collaborative effort aims to enhance conservation initiatives and protect the natural environment for future generations.
Kim Yeong-bin, Senior Director (Management Support) at HD Hyundai Infracore, said, "HD Hyundai Infracore has consistently carried out ecosystem restoration efforts in habitats for the black-faced spoonbill, including the amdong Reservoir and Wangsan Beach, as part of the Adopt-A-Beach initiative." He added, "We will continue to actively contribute to the growth of local communities and the preservation of the natural environment."
