On May 22, 2024 (Wednesday), in observance of Global Volunteer Day, employees from three HD Hyundai Construction Equipment companies gathered at the Tancheon Taepyeong Wetland Ecological Garden in Seongnam-si to remove invasive plants, plant new trees, and install biotopes as part of an ecosystem conservation project.

The three construction equipment companies of HD Hyundai hosted the second “Global Volunteer Day” this year with all global offices participating to carry out environmental protection activities simultaneously following last year's initiative.

HD Hyundai XiteSolution, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment, and HD Hyundai Infracore organized a global environmental initiative on May 22, 2024 (Wednesday), engaging over 1,300 employees from eight countries including Korea, China, India, USA, and Indonesia in cleanup activities and ecosystem conservation efforts and visiting seas, forests, and rivers near their workplaces.

In observance of the United Nations’ "International Day for Biological Diversity," the event also featured initiatives to conserve and maintain the species diversity of a wide range of plants and animals especially endangered ones.

HD Hyundai XiteSolution took action to preserve the wetland ecosystem by removing invasive plants that had spread throughout the 27,600 m2 wetland at the Tancheon Taepyeong Wetland Ecological Garden in Seongnam-si and collecting abandoned tree branches and grass clippings. Employees also created and installed biotopes for insect habitats and worked to conserve biodiversity by planting a variety of plants.

In collaboration with Soi-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk, Korea with which it has a sisterhood relationship, HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has planted 300 Retusa fringe trees along a 2.1-km stretch of road near the Eumseong Plant to create a tree-lined street. After planting, employees will regularly conduct additional activities such as applying pesticides and watering the street trees to prevent pests and diseases and promote the trees’ growth.

HD Hyundai Infracore cleaned up marine waste at Wangsan Beach in Incheon and Okdol Beach in Gunsan as part of the Adopt-a-Beach program. In addition, efforts were made to remove harmful plants and restore the environment of the Namdong Reservoir in Incheon, which is a habitat for the endangered spoon-billed sandpiper.

Going beyond domestic boundaries, employees working at global offices also participated in volunteer activities near their respective workplaces, adding significance to “Global Volunteer Day.”

For example, HD Hyundai Infracore Yantai Parts Distribution Center marked Biodiversity Day by visiting a local school in an underprivileged area and conducting biodiversity education and recreational activities for the students as part of its "Hope Elementary School" program, which aims to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged youth. Meanwhile, around 200 employees of HD Hyundai Construction Equipment India embarked on an environmental cleanup campaign along a river near Pune.

"Since last year, the three HD Hyundai construction equipment companies have been organizing simultaneous volunteer activities at global sites on the same day to promote ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation,” HD Hyundai XiteSolution CEO Young-cheul Cho remarked while participating in a wetland protection activity alongside employees on this day, emphasizing the importance of corporate social responsibility.
