Doosan Infracore recently announced that it had held the ‘Junior Engineering Class’, its employees’ talent donation program, on April 26 at the Global R&D Center located at the company’s Incheon headquarters, for more than twenty elementary school students from nearby neighborhoods.

The Junior Engineering Class, one of the company’s corporate community involvement programs, was launched in 2008 with the aim of supporting the science education of young students from local communities who show great potential in science and engineering based on its employees’ unique R&D experience.

The Doosan Infracore employees who participate in the program as one-day teachers help young students to understand scientific principles through hands-on experiments appropriate to the level of the young students. The topics covered in previous classes include a story about steel, a solar car, a static electricity power plant, and drowsiness-resistant eyeglasses.

Held on the theme of ‘Vehicles moving along lanes,’ this latest class gave the students an opportunity to learn about the technologies that are applied to autonomous vehicles and cutting-edge excavators. It aroused particularly strong enthusiasm among the students as it was held at the Global R&D Center, the place where the Doosan Infracore volunteer researchers conduct their research.

One of the researchers who participated in the latest Junior Engineering Class said, “It was all the more significant because we invited the children to the Global R&D Center, our company’s R&D hub,” adding, “It was a genuinely rewarding moment for me personally as the students were delighted to learn about some of the scientific principles embedded in our daily lives through simple hands-on experiments.”

Meanwhile, the researchers from Doosan Infracore’s Institute of Technology presented the school supplies they had purchased with the proceeds from an in-house charity bazaar to two children’s centers in Incheon whose students attended the latest junior engineering class.
