Doosan Infracore, jointly with Doosan Corporation and Doota Mall, is hosting the 2018 Doosan Match Play Championship, the only match play of the KLPGA tour launched in 2008. The 11th championship, to be held for five days from May 16 - 20 at the Ladena Golf Club (par 72. 6,313 yards) in Chuncheon, will offer total prize money of KRW 700 million and winner’s prize money of KRW 175 million.
Korea’s golf queen, Inbee Park, who has recaptured the world number one ranking after a hiatus of two and a half years, is challenging again for the winner’s spot after shaking off the disappointment of being runner-up last year. Joining the championship are top rankers from the previous year, such as Jungun Lee 6, Jihyun Kim, Jihyun Oh, Haerim Kim, Jihyun Kim 2, and Sunghyun Lee, as well as previous winners, such as Bogyung Kim, Jungmin Lee, Hana Jang, and Seula Yun, as well as the Doosan Match Play Championship’s first multi-time winner Jayoung Kim2 and the big rookie Hyejin Choe. As such, 64 top-tier players of the KLPGA will vie fiercely for the title of Queen of the Match. Golf fans are paying close attention to whether a multi-time winner will be victorious this year, as was the case last year, or whether a new Queen of the Match will emerge.
The championships for the Doosan Young Golfers Scholarship will be held and the sponsorships for participating in various tournaments are provided with the aim of supporting promising young golfers. A scholarship of KRW 50 million, including the entire proceeds from the sale of tickets and financial support from the hosts, will be raised to support ten young golfers of the Korea Junior Golf Association. A full-day ticket for the Doosan Match Play Championship is priced at KRW 10,000, and everyone who purchases a ticket will receive a golf umbrella. The golfers supported by the scholarship will compete in the 2018 Doosan Match Play Championship, as in 2017.
The winner will be awarded not only prize money but also a Doosan Infracore mini excavator (DX35Z-5). Although the hosts’ products are often awarded to the winners of domestic and overseas championships, this is the first time that a mini excavator will be awarded at a domestic golf championship.
